Fish In The City

Information on places to fish in the metro-east area of Illinois.

St. Ellen Mine Park
St. Ellen Mine Park located in O'Fallon, IL.
Main Lake - has boat ramp and dock.  Trolling motor only limit.  The lake has a ton of underwater weed growth.

Large population of bluegill.  Largemouth bass and catfish are in the main lake.  I have also spotted some grass carp in the ponds.  This place is great.  You have to deal with the weeds, but you can get your lure / bait out there.  The main lake and other ponds have a few places to bank fish from.  There is a walking trail throughout the park with benches and a pavilion.  Parking right by the main lake and boat ramp.

I usually take the canoe out to the main lake.  I bring waders and walk the shallows if I go without a boat.

Fly fishing for bluegill is a blast here.  They hit small poppers and bugs.  I have gotten largemouth to take the same flies, so you never know what you are going to get.

There are multiple lakes on site.  Bring weedless lures.
